Current and Force Control in Micro Resistance Welding Machines

Micro resistance welding is an effective way to reliably join small-scale parts. The joining is performed by pressing parts between electrodes and then conducting electric current through their interface. The heat generated in the welding area rises and reaches the melting temperature, thus creating a welded joint.
Simple and unregulated DC pulses are used if the requirements for welded joints are not very strict. They are formed with capacitive discharge microwelding machines. More complex pulse profiles with controlled smooth rises and falls are used to obtain high-quality joints.
DC welding pulses with a controlled profile are generally formed by welding machines based on transistorized converters. Investigations show that the profile is universally accepted.
